Dan Wendlandt was a co-founder and CEO of Isovalent, which Cisco acquired in 2024, and is now Vice President of Product Management at Cisco Security. He leads product management for Isovalent, Cisco Hypershield, and Cisco Secure Workload. Together, these technologies provide a consistent layer of networking, security, observability, and enforcement across bare-metal, VM and Kubernetes workloads spanning private data centers, public clouds, and emerging AI infrastructure. Isovalent's eBPF-powered Tetragon technology also powers Cisco Live Protect, a vulnerability-shielding capability built into several key Cisco products, including Nexus and Catalyst platforms. Dan has helped shape two major shifts in networking & security. In 2008 he was one of the first employees at Nicira, the company that pioneered the software-defined networking (SDN) movement. At Nicira, he helped create the Open vSwitch and OpenStack Networking open source projects and led product strategy for the Nicira Network Virtualization Platform, which became the foundation of VMware NSX following Nicira's acquisition. In 2017, Dan co-founded Isovalent, the co-creator and leading champion of eBPF, a Linux kernel technology now used broadly across the networking, security, and observability ecosystem. Isovalent's open source eBPF-powered Cilium technology has become the de facto standard for Kubernetes networking and security and has been adopted by Kubernetes services from major cloud providers including Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and AWS.
